Frank Phillips College vs. Midland College Lady Chaps
Midland, TX
Forecasts of inclement weather in the Midland area on Friday and Saturday, forced the FPC at MC series from Friday and Saturday to Thursday and Friday. The Lady Chaps and Plainsmen successfully played Thursday at Lady Chaps Field with MC taking both by scores of 5-2 and 7-4. However rains overnight on Thursday forced Friday's double-header to be postponed as field conditions were unplayable. The make-up games are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 29th @ 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in Plainview at Wayland Baptist University.
Midland College, 31-4 on the season, improved to 6-0 in the WJCAC after Thursday's wins. The Lady Chaps also extended their unbeaten streak to 27 games.
MC appeared a bit sluggish in both games as they were outhit by FPC in the first game (5-4). Midland College's Jayci Johnson's homerun gave the Lady Chaps the margin they needed to take the contest by a score of 5-2. Katelynn Perez went the distance, striking out four in her 11th win of the season.
In game #2, the Plainsmen outhit the Lady Chaps (7-6). MC scored two runs in the first inning with FPC replying with three runs in the top of the second inning to take the lead by a score of 3-2. Midland tied the game, scoring a run in the bottom of the 4th (3-3). The Lady Chaps took control of the game with a four-run, 6th inning. FPC managed one more run in the top of the 7th to make the final score 7-4 (MC). MC's Tessia Guzman recorded her 9th win of the season against two losses.
Unfortunately for both teams rain accumulations on Thursday night rendered the Lady Chaps Field infield unplayable due to standing water around the bases and in the batters boxes. As a result the Lady Chaps and Plainsmen have tentatively scheduled to play a makeup double-header on Tuesday, April 29th @ 1:00 p.m. in Plainview at Wayland Baptist University's home field.
Midland College will next be in action on Friday, April 11th @ 1:00 pm versus Howard College. Friday's double-header will be played at Lady Chaps Field. Then on Saturday, April 12th the Lady Chaps will travel to Big Spring for the second twinbill beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Howard College.
Through 35 games Midland College ranks 7th nationally in walks (bases on balls) with 171, 7th in on base percentage (.481), 8th in sacrifice flies (20), 9th in ERA (1.79), 10th in batting average (.388) and 10th in the nation in doubles (87). There are 140 teams in NJCAA Division I Softball.
