BASKETBALL: Chaps and Lady Chaps Hoops Teams Open 2021-22 Season

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Both MC basketball teams are scheduled to tip-off the season this weekend with the Lady Chaps traveling to Odessa for the Lady Wrangler Invitational on November 4th and 5th. On Thursday the Lady Chaparrals open the season in a 4:00 p.m. contest versus Salt Lake Community College. On Friday Midland College will take on Monroe College (NY) in a 10:00 a.m. contest.

The Midland College Chaparrals hosts Howard College, Strength N Motion (Prep) and Loyalty College Prep at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center in the 2021 Midland College Classic (November 5th and 6th). Play will begin on Friday with Howard College (TX) versus Strength N Motion in a 5:30 p.m. game, followed by the Chaparrals versus Loyalty College Prep at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's action begins at 1:00 p.m. with Loyalty College Prep versus Howard College. Midland College hosts Strength N Motion Prep beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Chap Center.

The Lady Chaparrals are also scheduled to travel to Hobbs, NM on Saturday, November 6th for a single game against Pratt Community College (KS). The MC versus Pratt CC game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (CST)/1:00 p.m. (MT) on the campus of New Mexico Junior College.

Midland College women's basketball coach Ron Jones enters his 27th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps, but for the first time in over a decade he will have a new assistant next to him on the bench. New MC assistant coach, Joshua Smith, joins the coaching staff for the 2021-2022 season.

The Lady Chaps team has a few familiar faces including Teanna Huggins, Makayla Escue, Kim Schrama, Dana Thompson, Bella Green, Frida Schmidt and Brook Galvin from last season's 13-4 squad. Thompson and Green are the top two returning scorers at 12.8 and 10.6 respectively. Newcomers include Daria Douglas, Marin Lenz, Dee Pinnick and Mya Pierfax should add depth to the mix.

As for the Midland College men, Pat Rafferty enters year four of his return to the Chaps sidelines. He is joined by former player and current assistant Kevin Rice. Steven Richardson is the lone returning member of team however he is joined by sophomore transfer Ashraf Tchadouwa who comes to Midland College from Laramie County Community College (WY). New members of the team include Nale Mulaudzi, Matteo Tersillo, Christian Villegas, Julius Byrd, Trent Johnson, Bradley Beemon, Karim Anyogo, Devin Avent, Wunya Brown, Jaden Henderson, Daniel Piech-Meat, Franklin Agu and Oliver Hayward.
