Last night at 9:22 p.m. I received a text message from Mike Yeater, Director of Athletics at Howard College. A member of the Howard College women's basketball team has been tested positive for COVID-19. Obviously the entire team, including coaches, have been exposed via close contact. The entire Howard women's basketball team is currently in quarantine and will not be available to play tonight at 5:45 p.m.
WJCAC COVID-19 protocols which were introduced, voted in and adopted in September of this year considers this as a forfeited game. The game will not be made up or rescheduled.
The men's basketball game, Howard at Midland, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. will proceed as usual.
We will open door #2 at 6:30 p.m. Game operations personnel, including stats and ticket seller should be at the Chap Center by 6:45 p.m. for the men's game.
We apologize for any inconvenience this creates and look forward to seeing you all at the 7:30 p.m. contest.

MIDLAND, TEXAS - After an 11-day break from competition the Midland College Lady Chaps return to play with two conference games in three days. On Wednesday, December 1 the Lady Chaps will host Howard College at the Chaparral Center. Midland College will be playing their first games since November 20th when they suffered a loss to Weatherford College in the WNIT. Midland College will then travel to Frank Phillips College in Borger.
Midland College began the 2021-2022 season with five consecutive wins, but dropped two of their three games during the always challenging WNIT. The Lady Chaps are currently 6-2 overall headed into the Howard College game.
The Lady Chaps have been playing undermanned thus far into the season, which includes a season ending injury to sophomore forward Freida Schmidt as well as injuries to other members of the team. Midland College should be healthier going into the Howard College game with Daria Douglas and Dee Pinnick rejoining the team for their first action of the season.
Howard and Midland have common opponents in Weatherford and Ranger Colleges. The Hawks have lost twice to both Weatherford and Ranger. Midland College defeated Ranger College on November 12 and the previously mentioned loss to Weatherford on November 20.
The Howard Hawks are 5-6 this season, averaging 60.5 points and 37.1 rebound per game. Offensively the Hawks are averaging 35% FG, 28.9 from the three-point line and 59.5 percent from the charity stripe. Howard is led by Charnay Robinson at 11.5 points per game. Jasmine Elder leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per contest and Kaeona Marquez is posting 2.9 assists in 2021 to lead the team in that category. Robison also contributes 5.3 rebounds per game for HC.
Midland College is led by the offensive tandem of Bella Green and Makayla Escue with 13.9 and 10.0 points per game respectively. Sophomore guard Brook Galvin's 9.9 points per game gives the Lady Chaps a consistent threat from the three-point line. Green also leads the Lady Chaps with 11.4 rebounds per game. Midland College averages 71.5 points and 39 rebounds per contest in 2021.
Following the Howard and Frank Phillips games, the Lady Chaps will finish the fall semester of competition with a road rematch versus Weatherford College on December 10th.
