BASKETBALL: Lady Chaps beat WTC for 4th straight victory
The Midland College women’s basketball team believes it can play a lot better than it has been, despite a four-game winning streak.

MIDLAND, TEXAS -The Midland College women's basketball team believes it can play a lot better than it has been, despite a four-game winning streak.
The Lady Chaparrals might not be playing up their high standards but it was still impressive enough on Monday as they pulled away in the second half for an 83-67 victory over Western Texas College at Chaparral Center.
MC (13-4, 4-1) led 42-36 at the half but started the second half with a 12-0 run to begin the separation.
"I think the way Western plays, they lull you to sleep a little bit and I think our energy wasn't consistent on defense," MC coach Ron Jones said. "I think a lot of possessions defensively could be better, but I'm very happy with the win. We need to keep going. It's at home and we've got to win it. I just told the team that it didn't feel like we've been playing as together as we have in the last few conference games.
"Maybe I just didn't like the game plan that I gave them. It just didn't look the way I thought it should tonight. But we'll learn from it and try to get ready for Odessa on Thursday."
WTC (7-10, 1-4) shot 42%, while MC hit 49% of its shots in the game. MC also only had a 29-28 rebounding advantage.
The Lady Chaps were paced by Bella Green and Makayla Escue with 19 points each. Dana Thompson added 14 points and Marin Lenz had 13 off then bench.
"We left the locker room, knowing we had to have more energy," said Green about going into the second half. "We knew coming into the game that they were 1-3 (in the WJCAC) and we were 3-1 and we needed to treat this as important as any other game we played. But we didn't feel like we played our best today. We know if we play like that on Thursday, we won't win. We know we have to play bring that energy and play better defensively."
The Lady Chaps are also going through a tough stretch in their schedule in which they have to play four games in seven days. MC was coming off a 94-69 victory at Clarendon College on Saturday.
"It's exhausting, but we have one game left and then we have 11 days off," Green said. "We're just going try and get through it and try to get the 'W'."
For WTC, Jordyn Maddix had 19 points, Shailance Montoya had 16, Curenity Emerson added 13 and Parehuia Delamere chipped in with 10.
The Lady Chaps look to extend their winning streak at Odessa College at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. It's a renewal of the rivalry which took a break last season after OC furloughed the program for a year.
"Odessa was off (on Monday) and they'll be excited to play us," Jones said. "We've got to go over there and play much better than we did tonight and hopefully give ourselves a chance to win."
