BASKETBALL: MC, OC women renew rivalry on the court
The Midland College women’s basketball team will renew its rivalry against Odessa College after a one-year hiatus.

ODESSA, TEXAS - The Midland College women's basketball team will renew its rivalry against Odessa College after a one-year hiatus.
The Lady Chaparrals (13-4, 4-1 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference) will make the trip down Highway 191 to face the Lady Wranglers (4-11, 1-2) at the OC Sports Center at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
The men's game between Midland (10-8, 3-2) and the No. 21-ranked Wranglers (13-5, 4-0) follows the women's game at around 7:30 p.m.
Odessa College furloughed the women's program last year after the Lady Wranglers went through a coaching change and then the pandemic, so this long-standing rivalry will be a new experience for the players on both teams.
The Lady Chaps are riding a four-game winning streak into this contest and are coming off an 83-67 victory on Monday over Western Texas College in which they didn't feel they played their best game on both ends of the court. Still, MC was able to shake off a pesky WTC team in the second half.
Bella Green and Makayla Escue led MC with 19 points each, Dana Thompson had 14 and Marin Lenz had 13 off the bench.
OC, under first-year coach Franqua Bedell, went through a rough stretch in which it lost 11 of 12 games, but it is coming off a 66-48 victory at Western Texas College on Jan. 6.
