LEVELLAND, TEXAS - The South Plains College women's basketball team held No. 19 Midland College to just 16 points in the second half in a 54-41 victory at the Texan Dome on Thursday.
The loss for the Lady Chaparrals (20-6, 11-3 in Western Junior College Athletic Conference) denied them at least a share of the league title with New Mexico Junior College. MC will go into next week's Region V Tournament at Wolfforth Frenship's Tiger Pit as the No. 2 seed. The Lady Chaps will play the No. 3 seed out of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference in a first round game at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
South Plains (17-8, 11-3), which will go into the tourney as the No. 3 seed, held the Lady Chaps to 29.6% shooting and forced 21 turnovers.
SPC had a 26-25 lead at the half before going on an 18-9 run in the third quarter to gain some separation.
Brooke Galvin led MC with a game-high 19 points, while Bella Green added 10.
Three Lady Texans were in double figures, led by Celia Sumbane with 14 points, Ashala Moseberry had 11 and Viktoria Ivanova added 10.
