WOLFFORTH, TEXAS - The No. 19-ranked Midland College women's basketball team used an 18-9 run in the third quarter to pull away from Temple College for an 82-64 victory at Frenship High School's Tiger Pit on Wednesday.
The win for the Lady Chaparrals (21-6) in the first round of the NJCAA Region V Tournament sets up a 1 p.m. Friday semifinal against Western Junior College Athletic Conference foe Clarendon College, which knocked off No. 1 seed Hill College, 86-76 earlier on Wednesday.

MC was actually down against Temple (18-11) 15-12 after the opening quarter but bounced back to take a 33-31 lead at the half.
The third quarter was huge for MC, which held the usually high-scoring Lady Leopards to single digits. Temple was also held 12 points below its season average as the Lady Leopards shot 37% and turned the ball over 18 times.
Five Lady Chaps finished in double figures, led by Makayla Escue, who had a game-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds. Dana Thompson added 14 points and nine rebounds, Teanna Huggins had 13 points, while Brooke Galvin and Kim Schrama each had 11.
