The Midland College Lady Chaps basketball team is looking to make positive adjustments to their recent struggles. MC is currently 12-12 overall and 3-7 in the WJCAC and until recently seemed in control of their post-season destiny. A spate of injuries to team members and what appears to be uncertainty on the court, has the Lady Chaps in peril. The Lady Chaps will face national power New Mexico Junior College on Thursday night at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center with aspirations to upset the Lady T-Birds.
Midland College still has a shot at making it to the 2024 NJCAA Region 5 Basketball Tourament, but will need to have a strong showing over their final four regular season games. The first step in the journey is the match-up with NMJC, Thursday night.
Freshman guard Brianna Vargas, the team's second leading scorer, will need to add scoring punch to the Lady Chaps line-up. Vargas, from El Paso, is averaging just under 8.0 points per game this season. Fellow freshmen Etoyah Montgomery and Dee Henderson are averaging 7.7 and 7.3 points per contest and will be asked to provide more offense and rebounding versus NMJC. They too can help propel the team to much-needed wins over the remainder of the regular season.
