Midland College Falls to #13 New Mexico Junior College, Moves on to Western Texas College

The Midland College Lady Chaps put up quite the fight in their 62-58 loss to #13 ranked New Mexico Junior College.  The game which was played at the Caster Activity Center in Hobbs, NM was tightly contested until the final horn sounded. 

With 3:46 seconds left in the game, the Lady Chaps led the Thunderbirds 51-50 on a layup by MC sophomore Latisha Wilson.  The two teams were knotted at 56 with 2:20 remaining, thanks to a freethrow by Lady Chaps guard Jaziah Billey.  NMJC took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Kaycee Steinke at the 1:48 mark in the game (59-56).  Aniyah Mayberry scored on two freethrows with nine seconds left to pull MC to within two points at 60-58.  NMJC scored on two freethrows to increase the final margin to four points.  

Midland College's Latisha Wilson led the Lady Chaps with a 19 point, six rebound night versus NMJC.  Fellow MC sophomore Sumaiyah Ibrahim scored eight points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.  The loss dropped the Lady Chaps to 12-8 overall and 1-4 in the WJCAC.  

Next on the schedule for the Lady Chaps is a trip to Snyder and a Thursday night matchup with the Western Texas College Lady Westeners.  WTC, under first-year head coach Nathan Purswell, will enter the game with an 0-21 record, including 0-5 in the WJCAC.  Midland College will look to play a solid, error-free game versus the Lady Westerners.  The Lady Chaps have demonstrated an ability to play their best basketball against nationally ranked opponents.  MC can't afford to look past WTC with a very strong Howard College Hawks team on the schedule for a Monday night contest in Midland.
