MIDLAND. TEXAS - As the end of the regular season nears the Lady Chaps volleyball team aims to peak at just the right time of the year. Ten weeks of competition and nagging injuries will test the fortitude of the team as they prepare for their final two road conference matches. Midland College, 15-6 overall and 7-2 in the WJCAC, finds themselves in sole possession of second place in conference.
Midland College readies for two tough road tests over the next week, Saturday at Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX and a week from today at #8 ranked New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell, NM. FPC is better than their current 12-11 overall record and 2-6 conference record might imply, especially at the Borger Activity Center on the FPC campus.
Likewise for NMMI (23-4 and 7-1 this season) who has played one of the toughest schedules in the NJCAA with wins over several nationally ranked opponents this season. The Broncos benefit from a typically raucous home environment at the Cahoon Armory so the Lady Chaps will need to lock into their match strategies and mentally tune out the loud NMMI cadets.
Midland College currently ranks 14th in NJCAA Division I in Service Aces per Set, 21st in the nation in Assists per Set and 22nd in Kills per Set.
