MIDLAND, TEXAS - The Midland College volleyball team finished 2-2 at the MC Kick-Off Classic after dropping two matches on Saturday at Chaparral Center.
Lee College defeated the Lady Chaparrals in a five-set thriller, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 16-25, 18-16 earlier in the day, before Navarro College beat MC, 25-22, 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, to close out the weekend's action.
Error cost MC in the loss to Lee College as the Lady Chaps had 14 attack errors and seven serving errors.
Petra Fernandez led MC with1 13 kills, Linda Conceicao and Zoe Fernandez added 12 kills, Miranda Acosta added 17 digs, and Julia Kabala had 37 assists.
Against Navarro College, MC had another 14 attack errors and were held to a .140 attack percentage.
Petra Fernandez had 11 kills, Kabala had 17 assists, Megan Runyan had 16 digs and Angeli Sanchez had 5.5 blocks to lead the Lady Chaps.
The Lady Chaps will be on the road for the next few weeks, beginning with a trip to Snyder to play in the WTC Fall Classic next weekend. MC will face Lee College once again and No. 7-ranked Blinn College on Friday.

Lady Chaps begin season with two home victories

MIDLAND, TEXAS -
The Midland College volleyball team had a good start to its 2022 season with two straight-set victories at their MC Kick-Off Classic at Chaparral Center on Friday.
The Lady Chaparrals began the day with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 victory over Otero Junior College, before defeating North Central Texas Junior College, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.
Against Otero, Petra Fernandez and Zoe Fernandez each had six kills, Miranda Acosta had 13 digs, and Julia Kabala had 15 assists and four aces to lead the Lady Chaps.
Petra Fernandez had 15 kills against NCTC, Acosta added 15 digs, Ana Zink had 18 assists and Kabala added 14 assists in the win.

The Lady Chaps (2-0) play two more matches in their home tournament on Saturday. MC faces Lee College at 11 a.m., before closing out the day against Navarro College at 3 p.m.
