HOBBS, NEW MEXICO - Midland College swept both of its volleyball matches to close out the New Mexico Junior College Classic on Saturday, as the Lady Chaps beat Tyler Junior College 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 in the early match before defeating Trinidad State with a 25-22, 25-23, 25-21 victory.
Lady Chaps head coach Tammie Jimenez picked up her career 200th win with the victory over Tyler JC. Her record is now 201-128.
MC (7-5) finished the New Mexico Junior College Classic with a 3-1 mark.
Against Tyler JC, Petra Fernandez led the Lady Chaps in two stat categories with 10 kills and nine digs, Julia Kabala had a team-high 20 assists and Linda Conceicao had 2 ½ blocks.
In the match versus Trinidad State, Laura Milori led MC with 12 kills, Miranda Acosta had 12 digs, Kabala tallied 23 assists, Conceicao recorded 2 ½ blocks and Fernandez made three aces.
The Lady Chaps host Clarendon College in their Western Junior College
Athletic Conference opener at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chaparral Center.

Lady Chaps split at NMJC Classic

HOBBS, NEW MEXICO - The Midland College volleyball team split a pair of matches during the New Mexico Junior College Classic on Friday.
No. 14-ranked Blinn College defeated MC, 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 25-21, before the Lady Chaparrals bounced back with a 25-17, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23 victory over Otero College.
Petra Fernandez led MC (5-5) against Blinn with 11 kills, Miranda Acosta had 12 digs, Julia Kabala had 27 assists and 11 digs, and Kinga Romanowicz had four aces.
In the win over Otero, Acosta had 26 digs, Lindamara Conceicao had 12 kills and three total blocks, Kabala had 35 assists and two aces, and Laura Milori added 10 kills.
MC next plays Tyler Junior College and Trinidad State College
on Saturday in the classic.
