The Midland College volleyball displayed incredible resilience in their four-set win over #20 ranked New Mexico Junior College. The match was played at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center in Midland and avenged a 3-0 loss to the Thunderbirds in Hobbs on October 2nd. The win improved the Lady Chaps season record to 8-14 and their WJCAC record to 5-7 with two regular season matches left on the schedule.
MC won the first set by a score of 25-17 before taking the loss in the second stanza 22-25. Midland College led late in the second set but couldn't hold off the T-Birds when the dust settled. The Lady Chaps regrouped in the third and fourth to win by scores of 25-19 and 25-16 to take the match 3-1.
Midland College was led by Iasmin Araujo who posted a match-high 18 kills followed by fellow freshman Noa Reculard's 15 kills. Once again sophomore setter Martyna Lubowicz led all players with 47 assists. Lubowicz also picked up 19 digs and three kills in the match. Freshman libero Hailey Reyes chipped in with 17 digs, two service aces and one kill for Midland College.
The Lady Chaps return to the hardwood for their final two WJCAC matches of the season. On Wednesday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m. the Lady Chaps host #3 ranked NMMI at the Chaparral Center followed by a match at #10 Odessa College on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. Midland College remains mathematically alive for a post-season berth but will likely need to run the table in order to move on to the 2024 NJCAA Region 5 Tournament.
Wednesday night's match will the final home contest in the Midland College careers of three Lady Chaps. Kylee Radwanski (Midland, TX), Martyna Lubowicz (Opole, Poland) and Amarilis Cortes (El Paso, TX) will bid farewell to the green and gold in their final home MC volleyball appearance. The three sophomores will be recognized in a ceremony immediately following the match against NMMI.
